ABOUT ABOUT

Join the upcoming session of the Navigate Nursing Lecture Series which will explore The Opioid Epidemic and Pain Management. Dr. Harold K. Tu, DMD, MD, FACS presents a lecture on the background and current state of opioid abuse and overdose deaths, addresses Oregon’s part of the crisis, highlights evidence-based solutions including his own clinical trial, and speaks to the role of nurses in addressing this ongoing epidemic.

Presented by: Harold K. Tu, DMD, MD, FACS

First a graduate of the formerly named Linfield College in 1971 and a graduate of the University of Oregon Dental School, Dr. Harold K. Tu received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical School. Tu completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency and his general surgery internship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

In 1982, he joined University of Nebraska in a faculty role serving as director of the OMS Residency Program, the OMS Externship Program, the Oral Facial Implant Clinic, and the Quality Assurance Committee Chair for the University Hospital.

Dr. Tu became the first oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Nebraska to be credentialed in facial cosmetic surgery in 1991. Five years later, he began a private practice while maintaining an active role in residency education with the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

In 2006, he received the Milagro Award from One World Health for providing indigent care in Omaha, NE. After years in private practice and education, he became an associate professor and director of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for the University of Minnesota’s School of Dentistry.

He was appointed to the new, federal Pain Management Best Practices Inter-Agency Task Force in 2018. Formed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Tu and the other task force members were charged with proposing updates to best practices and recommending solutions to gaps or inconsistencies in managing chronic and acute pain.

Now a University of Minnesota School of Dentistry Professor Emeritus, Dr. Tu has been on the Linfield University Board of Trustees since 2022.
